Columbia Heights Chiropractor Provides Backpack Do’s and Don'ts
It is that time of year again where we are holding on to the last bit of summer and then welcoming in Fall. But for all of the kids, this only means one thing……..SCHOOL IS STARTING……… NOOOOOOO!!!! And with school comes the fun, or not so fun times of lugging homework and book back and forth. Improper use of a backpack can unfortunately cause back aches and pains so please make sure your kids are not one of the following:
Tips for Finding the Proper Backpack in Columbia Heights
- The single strapped person: this may be the cool thing to do and wear your back pack using only one strap on one shoulder but if they do this often enough, they will end with unnecessary low back pains.
- Back pack bringing you down, literally: this scenario seems to happen quite a bit where the back pack is either too big for the kids and sags down way too low or it weighs half of their body weight and literally drags them down.
- Make sure the straps are fit first and are snug enough that the back pack sits correctly on the middle back and not the low back, before loading the back pack. Do not exceed weights over 15% of the child’s body weight. As a general rule look at the child or student from the side and with the back pack weighted, the child’s ears, shoulders, hips and knees should all be in a straight line meaning the back pack is fitted properly and they are ready for a great school year.
